ALGEBRA
Problem of the Week (Math Forum)
You can see this problem of the week and submit your answer when you are ready.
Explore
Y=MX + B and the lines this rule creates.
This applet gives you the graph of a line with which you can play. You can rotate
it, and translate it by grabbing it with the mouse, and moving it. As you do
this, you can also see which rules (in the form of y=mx + b), make each line.
Be aware that you can also click the mouse on a point to move the line so that
it crosses that point. You can also deselect the 'snap to grid' box and explore
decimal parameters (m and b are called parameters!)
- A Web-based Graphing Calculator
Students no longer need an $80 calculator to be able to check the graphs that
they must graph for their math homework. This "plotter" will graph all the
rules, or functions, that any self-respecting high school math student would
want to see. The help button does not work, but if you scroll down, you will
see a link to a help page. Be sure to follow the guidelines on how you must
type in your rules. For example, x squared is written 'x^2' and 3x needs to
be written '3*x' . You can even change the window size by clicking on 'Set
graph'. CALCULUS students should be aware that you can even quickly see the
derivative graph and perform integrals!

- Vector Addition
and Subtraction
Trigonometry teachers go and tell the physics teachers about this great applet
for demonstrating and allowing student exploration of vector addition and
subtraction. You will never go back to the chalkboard again.
- Matrix Solver
This applet allows you to type in any matrix and then it solves it for you.
After spending a day showing your kids how to solve a system of three equations
in three variables, they will be glad to know that they can at least check
their answer on the homework assignment that night!
